Desperate for help with overdue bills?
Life can be full of pleasantries. Life can be full of struggles. Things happen, and sometimes serious matters can slip through our hands and cause even bigger issues that seem out of our control. Luckily, there are some wonderful organizations that have spent years helping people in difficult financial situations, asking for little to nothing in return.
Here are a few organizations that can help you if you are experiencing financial issues:
- Modest Needs is one of these organizations, and one that is near and dear to my heart. This is not a hoax or a scam. There is no "catch." They simply want to help people. Go to their website, ModestNeeds.org, and sign up. You will be asked for a description of the issue that you are facing and you will be required to provide proof of your situation and proof of your identity. Once your documents are approved and your situation is confirmed, your case is added to the site, where donors can search and choose to donate to your cause. Donors can choose to donate to the site (Modest Needs will disperse the funds to multiple cases) or a donor can donate directly to a particular case. These funds are not sent to the person requesting assistance, but rather sent to the company that you owe money to. For example, if you are three months behind on your car payment, Modest Needs will send a check to Honda Financial Corp on your behalf. You, as the receipient, are not required to pay these funds back. You are simply asked to pay it forward or to donate to the site in the future if you are ever able to.
- Ways To Work is a great organization that provides low interest loans to families that need assistance to keep them afloat. "We are an alternative to predatory lenders for people with a demonstrated commitment to improving their credit status, moving up in the workforce and achieving increased self-sufficiency." Ways To Work not only helps with loans, they have provided reliable transportation to individuals that couldn't afford car repairs or maintain monthly finance payments.
