Where to Register: A Baby Registry Guide

I did a ton of research when I first found out I was pregnant. One of the most difficult tasks was deciding where we would start a baby registry. After talking to friends and reading through countless sites, I decided to do one online-based universal registry and one in-store registry. This allowed for baby shower guests of all ages and capabilities to be able to shop if they wished to.  I ultimately decided on Amazon (Shop Amazon - Create an Amazon Baby Registry) and Babies R Us (Create a Registry.)  I wanted to explain some of the benefits of the many popular baby registries out there.

Note: This page may contain affiliate links.  Mom & Baby Bargains/Oracle Bee Deals is a participant in several affiliate programs, designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to their sites.  Mom & Baby Bargains/Oracle Bee Deals receives a small commission on purchases made through affiliate links on this blog, as well as all Mom & Baby Bargains/Oracle Bee Deals sites and social media outlets.

The Amazon Baby Registry is a great choice because it is a universal registry, meaning that you can add items from ANY website, not just Amazon items. So if you really like a sleeper set from the Carter's website, add it on! If you love clothing from a small boutique's website, add it on!

There are a lot of perks to the Amazon registry, which is why I've mentioned it first.  First, all registrants will receive a completion discount of 10% off of the remaining items on their registry. Amazon Prime members will benefit the most, receiving up to 15% off of eligible remaining items on their registry (the completion discount.) One of my favorite things about having the Amazon Registry is the ease of returning items.  You can return items up to 90 days after purchase!  This is really important because time is precious when you have a little one, and you may not be able to get these things done right away.

Registrants can also receive a Welcome Box, valued at up to $35, by following the instructions at sign up.  The welcome box is, in my opinion, better than any of the other stores' goody bags.  It typically includes products by Babyganics, Burt's Bees, Philips Avent, and more.  Some more perks of an Amazon registry:   you will receive a 30% off coupon for Huggies, a 25% off coupon for a maternity purchase, a 25% off coupon for prenatal vitamins, FREE SHIPPING on all of your registry items and more! See all of the benefits and register here: Amazon Baby Registry Benefits.

Babies R Us Registry

Like the other store registries, Babies R Us offers a 10% completion discount (sent by mail to your home) for items remaining on your registry.  They also give you a welcome gift, which for me was a small diaper clutch containing a diaper and small pack of wipes.  Babies R Us also price matches items, so keep an eye out for great deals, and spread the word to family and friends!  Another perk is up to 1 year for returns, which is the longest time period of any store.

The biggest perk of this registry is the Endless Earnings program.  This program allows you to get up to 10% back on all of your registry purchases, including purchases that you make!  With my Babies R Us registry, I, first, added things that we really needed.  After my baby shower was over, I added on all of the items that I knew we would be buying (like nursing supplies that I didn't feel comfortable asking for.)  If I was in the store shopping and I saw something I liked, I would use the Babies R Us app to add the item to my registry before checking out.  About 10 weeks after your expected arrival date, you will receive an email with an e-gift card for about 10% of what was spent on your registry!  This is amazingly helpful, as you may still have things to buy or just want to stock up on diapers, wipe, etc.  Our registry items totaled about $2,000 (this includes items I added on after, that we were buying anyway) and I received an e-gift card for about $190.  I nearly forgot about it so it was quite a pleasant surprise when I checked my email.  So keep an eye out for that email, and check your spam folder!

babyli.st Registry

Also, a universal registry, this website offers a platform to add items from anywhere on the web.  They also have lists of the most popular items and checklists to help you choose the products that are right for you.  There aren't any coupons or goodie bags, but it is a nice, simple website.

buybuyBaby Registry

After starting a registry, buybuyBaby will give you a goody bag, available at any store location.  They also offer announcement cards to include with your baby shower invitations.  buybuyBaby also offers a great referral program, rewarding registrants with $25 off of $100 when they refer a friend to start a registry.  There is also a completion program for any remaining items on your registry.  See all of the benefits of their baby registry here:  Buy Buy Baby Registry Benefits

Kohl's Baby Registry

Kohl's will send you announcement cards that can be sent with baby shower invites.  These announcement cards will contain a 20% coupon for your guests.  Kohl's also offers a 15% completion discount for remaining items on your registry.  Many people love to shop at Kohl's because of their great rewards program and high value coupons.  Coupled with Kohl's Cash, the savings are significant!  See all of the benefits of their baby registry here:  Kohl's Baby Registry Benefits.

Differences Between Aden + Anais Muslin Swaddle Blankets

Note: This page may contain affiliate links.  Mom & Baby Bargains/Oracle Bee Deals is a participant in several affiliate programs, designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to their sites.  Mom & Baby Bargains/Oracle Bee Deals receives a small commission on purchases made through affiliate links on this blog, as well as all Mom & Baby Bargains/Oracle Bee Deals sites and social media outlets.

Whether you are pregnant and researching or a seasoned vet in the baby product world, you have probably heard about the magic of Aden+Anais products, specifically their muslin swaddle blankets.  In exploring these products, you have probably experienced one of these thoughts: "Why so expensive?!" or "Wow!  I found these for half the price!"  If you have no idea what any of that means, you will still find this information very useful in your hunt for quality, safe products.  Additionally, I will cover the differences among all A+A swaddle blankets, including their lower priced product lines.

At the top of every "Best Baby Products" list you will find the A+A muslin swaddle blankets.  These award-winning blankets are a staple on almost every baby registry!  What's so special about them?  How do they differ from other swaddle blankets? All questions I asked myself as a first time expecting mother!  The difference is that the classic swaddle blankets are made with the open weave and lightweight muslin fabric, allowing for airflow and ultimate softness, with just enough stretch for the perfect swaddle.  These blankets are so lightweight and breathable that you can feel confident wrapping your baby in them night after night. Their bamboo blankets are simply the softest blankets I have ever felt. I have tried many other brands (including other A+A product lines) of both cotton, muslin and bamboo blankets and NONE of them come close to the softness of the classic A+A blankets!  The thread count is not the same, therefore the quality and softness are recognizably different.
How to Spot the Best Aden + Anais Blankets

I, personally, love just about everything that this company makes, but there is a clear difference from one product line to another.  If you have been to Costco, BJ's or Sam's Club, you may have found a set of Aden + Anais blankets for a very low price, nearly half of the retail cost. These blankets are still high quality blankets, but they are probably not the very best, most breathable blankets that everyone is raving about.  Here's how to spot the difference:

  • First, the price will be a big indicator.  The classic muslin and bamboo swaddle blankets are almost never on sale.  A four pack retails for $49.95 and up, depending on the print. You can sometimes find one or two sets on Amazon for about $40.  The other product lines, like aden by aden+anais and SwaddlePlus are typically priced in the $20-$35 range.

  • The classic and bamboo swaddle blankets with the absolute softest material and best breathability will be in a box or package marked simply "aden + anais" - not "aden by aden + anais", "SwaddlePlus - aden by aden + anais" or "ideal baby by the makers of aden + anais."

  • Some online retailers may label all Aden + Anais products as that, without notating "Swaddleplus" or "aden by a+a," but you can still differentiate based on size.  The BEST A+A blankets are those that are 47" x 47."  The other product lines, like SwaddlePlus, are typically sized at 40" x 40", 42" x 42" or 44" x 44.

I hope this post was helpful in differentiating between the different product lines from Aden + Anais.  I highly recommend any and all of their products, as they are beautifully made with parents in mind.

Exploring Large Diaper Bags for Multiple Children

Having multiples or transitioning from one child to two can be exhausting enough... and finding a bigger diaper bag is just one of the many changes that can make for an easier experience.  I have researched some of the top brands to find the largest diaper bags on the market right now.   A large non-diaper bag tote or purse is a great option too, but if you are looking for a product that was specifically designed with diapering in mind, that is what you will find here.

I looked at a few features when choosing a diaper bag big enough for two or more babies/children. First, size was the biggest factor... obviously!  Many diaper bags appear to be really large in the stock photos, showing a perfect mom with her perfect baby strolling along with her cute, large diaper bag hanging comfortably on her shoulder.  Then, I open up the other photos to find that the inside of the bag is nothing more than empty space with one little zip pocket.  Not helpful to me.  So next, I looked for bags that have plenty of pockets, both on the exterior sides and inside of the bag.  I like the pockets on my first diaper bag because I like to keep specific items in plain view, so they don't get buried amongst the mound of  clothing and diapers in the middle of the bag.  Lastly, I explored different price ranges so that you can get a good idea of what is available within your budget.  Bags are listed in order from highest price to lowest.

I hope you find a bag that works for you and your family!

Baby Registry Product Checklist

I wanted to put together a simple checklist without all of the chatter.  Here is the list of items I had on my registry and a few that I felt were important as I went along. I will include the actual brands that we bought to give you an idea.  See my full guide to get more details.

I highly recommend an Amazon Registry, as it is universal, so you can add items from any website, not just amazon.  You will receive a welcome kit (this includes Babyganics, Burts Bees and other brands.)  You also get a 15% off completion discount, 90 days for returns. Amazon - Create an Amazon Baby Registry.

Note:  This link is for the original soft, large swaddle blankets.  If you see SwaddlePlus, they are still nice but they are slightly different in size and thread count than those I have linked.

- Thermometer - preferably an ear thermometer.  Braun is the best! Braun Forehead Thermometer or Braun Ear Thermometer.   We also have Innoo Tech Baby Thermometer-Forehead & Ear Thermometer, Digital, which is very reasonably priced, for the diaper bag.

- Carrier or Wrap - There are so many options for babywearing, which is one of the best things that ever happened to me. Wearing my son allowed me to go hands-free and get so many things done! There are wraps, mei tais, fly tais, slings, soft-structured buckled carriers and more. I opted for a buckle carrier, which is ergonomic and really comfortable. "Unnecessary" necessities in my opinion, so if you have a registry and/or unlimited funds, add them!:

- Baby wipes warmer - You'll thank me in the middle of the night.

- Diaper Pail - Playtex Diaper Genie COMPLETE - Make sure it has a foot pedal!
- Shopping Cart Cover -  I'm no germophobe but with my baby, I am much more cautious.  His immunity is building just fine being around cousins and friends.

- Bottle Sterilizer - because it made me feel better. Philips AVENT Microwave Steam Sterilizer

Vulli recommends that Sophie NOT be submerged in water when cleaning, but rather spot cleaned. Parents were soaking them in water to clean, water got inside, mold developed.  Don't submerge Sophie 😉
