Pregnancy Books
This highly popular pregnancy book is filled with all of the answers to just about all of your questions. It covers literally everything, from the beginning stages of pregnancy all the way to the very end when your baby arrives. It also features a very informative Questions & Answers section, which highlights many expecting mothers' frequently asked questions. This book, for both moms and dads, is regularly updated, with the latest version as recent as May 2016, to keep up with the ever-changing lifestyles that exist.
This book covers each stage of pregnancy in detail, from the very first week of pregnancy through two weeks after the baby is born. It features pictures and diagrams of the growing baby's progress through the milestones of pregnancy and provides information on what each OB appointment will entail.
Funny Pregnancy Books
Whether you are a fan or not, this book gets down to the nitty gritty. Jenny takes you on a hilarious journey through pregnancy, revealing all of the things that you never knew about pregnancy. Jenny does not hold back when discussing some of the experiences she had, all while giving you a laugh.
"Four-time delivery room veteran Vicki Iovine talks to you the way only a best friend can—in the book that will go the whole nine months for every mother-to-be. In this revised and updated edition, get the lowdown on all those little things that are too strange or embarrassing to ask, practical tips, and hilarious takes on everything pregnant."
Childbirth Books
This guide is a fantastic guide through the childbirth process, without all of the biased information that some books may have. It provides factual information about hospital and home births, as well as the different birthing methods. This is one of the few childbirth books that does not seem to have an agenda or the desire to instill fear.
This oldie but goodie details an alternative to Lamaze childbirth that includes a more natural breathing method and a totally unmedicated birth that many first and second-time parents prefer.
As you go through pregnancy, you may hear a lot about Ina May Gaskin. She is most associated with midwifery and natural childbirth practice. This book explores the joys and benefits of natural childbirth with a mind-body approach to pain and labor without technological intervention.
One of my personal favorites, this guide provides soothing techniques for a natural, drug-free childbirth, allowing for a sense of empowerment and awareness for the instinctive birthing capability of one's body.
"The Essential C-Section Guide is written not only for women to read in preparation for a scheduled c-section and for those considered “high risk” who know that a c-section may become necessary but also for women recovering from an unexpected surgical delivery. This book provides answers to important questions about what the surgery entails, what a woman can expect as she recovers, and what considerations should be made for future pregnancies and deliveries."
Breastfeeding Books
"Dedicated to supporting nursing and expectant mothers, the internationally respected La Leche League has set the standard for educating and empowering mothers in this natural art for generations. Now their classic bestselling guide has been retooled, refocused, and updated for today’s mothers and lifestyles. Working mothers, stay-at-home moms, single moms, and mothers of multiples will all benefit from the book’s range of nursing advice, stories, and information—from preparing for breastfeeding during pregnancy to feeding cues, from nursing positions to expressing and storing breast milk."
Caring For Baby Books
What To Expect The First Year
"Keeping the trademark month-by-month format that allows parents to take the potentially overwhelming first year one step at a time" .... "Baby care fundamentals—crib and sleep safety, feeding, vitamin supplements—are revised to reflect the most recent guidelines. Breastfeeding gets more coverage, too, from getting started to keeping it going. Hot-button topics and trends are tackled: attachment parenting, sleep training, early potty learning (elimination communication), baby-led weaning, and green parenting (from cloth diapers to non-toxic furniture). An all-new chapter on buying for baby helps parents navigate through today’s dizzying gamut of baby products, nursery items, and gear. Also new: tips on preparing homemade baby food, the latest recommendations on starting solids, research on the impact of screen time (TVs, tablets, apps, computers), and “For Parents” boxes that focus on mom’s and dad’s needs. Throughout, topics are organized more intuitively than ever, for the best user experience possible."
